The Rare Finch Conservation Group (RFCG) was started in 2005 by a group of established finch enthusiasts in South Africa. The RFCG members chose to thread their knowledge of finch breeding/husbandry into the more specialist area of finch conservation. With finches being an afterthought in most large-scale conservation projects, it seemed apt that a specialist non-governmental organisation be setup to conserve the rarer finch species.
The RFCG members all come from diverse career backgrounds, including publishing, advertising, teaching and writing. This brings to the RFCG a wide skill-set of knowledge and experience needed to nurture the aims and objectives of the organisation.
Since its inception, the RFCG has completed many research projects. Their current project, searching for the Shelley’s Crimsonwing in Uganda, is most on the lips of the RFCG members and their general public. To this end, the blog of the RFCG focuses mainly on the Shelley Crimsonwing project, attacking the topic from different angles and viewpoints.
